When I was young, I had 3 major operations in the Sydney Children’s Hospital which was scary but the doctors and nurses made me feel better. I always take my money box to donate to the hospital every year to say a big thank you and to help the sick kiddies and their parents too.

I wanted to do more for the Hospital and I love making art and handmade craft as my hobby. So now I make products to sell, and I give the profits to the Sydney Children’s Hospital to help the sick kiddies feel better and make them happy. My business is called Made by Cool Marie.

There is a range of my handmade craft for sale at Sunny’s Café inside the Sydney Children’s Hospital. I have also sold my art and craft at the Bayside Markets and even had my very own stall at Westfield Eastgardens. I met a lot of lovely people who loved my craft. I met one lady who bought “Bath-olomew the Bunny” (which has a bath fizzer in his tummy) for her mum who is in hospital. It felt like WOW to make her feel happy.

I enjoy doing volunteer work preparing Cuisine meals weekly, for people in the community who are housebound for medical or mobility reasons. I have also just completed a 12km walk, fundraising for Parkinson’s NSW. I was overwhelmed with all the support from the community and so far I have raised over $3000 on the GoFundMe page. The title is “Marie’s Walk to Fundraise”.

Most recently, my original artwork has been selected to be on the cover of “The Beast” magazine – a well-known and much-loved magazine that has 60,000 copies distributed all throughout the Eastern Suburbs in letter boxes and local cafes. My cover artwork was inspired by the surrounding beaches – it is a painting of a seagull with a chip in its mouth!

I was also interviewed about my experience of the Eastern Suburbs which is featured on page 30 of the magazine alongside my photo!

I love being part of the community, it gives me so much joy!
